I am now working as a technical content developer for Dell, and this makes me unavailable for most freelance work. However, there’s always the possibility that the nature of a particular project would allow my engagement outside of regular business hours.

My services include:

• Copyediting
• Technical Editing
• Structural Editing
• Stylistic Editing

These are general categories, and should not be taken as a completely exhaustive list. I have experience in several other areas also, which can be found in the About Me section.

I prefer to work by the word, rather than by the hour. Rates can range anywhere from 2 cents per word for basic copyediting to 8 cents per word for something highly complex. (A double-spaced page is approximately 250 words.) More specific guidelines are detailed by the Editorial Freelancers Association.

Note, too, that the content and type of editing will affect the rate. For instance, structural and stylistic editing is often more complex than basic copyediting; and editing academic papers is more difficult than editing standard text, while technical editing is more difficult still.

If you are thinking of hiring me, I need to see at least one page of your manuscript. (Assuming the page is typical of the entire manuscript. If it isn’t, I need to see samples of each differing component.) Based on expectations, I will perform a sample edit and return it to you along with a specific rate and work schedule. If we are both satisfied, I will draw up a contract and we will proceed.
